Purpose of this document
- This document should be used in conjunction with UniMax user guide for configuring your UniMax access points in WiFiLAN. Please refer to WiFiLAN administrator guide user guide for detail information.
- It is assumed that the user has basic knowledge of networking including configuring subnet mask, RADIUS setting, default gateway and DNS configuration.
- In order to configure UniMax AP you will need a public IP address, Subnet mask, default gateway and DNS information given to you by your Internet Service Provider. Please keep this information handy while setting up your gateway.
- Configuring WiFiLan you will need the WAN public IP address, AP MAC address, RADIUS secret, serial number and public IP address of your UniMax AP.
- You need an active WiFiLan account. Please contact Wifi-soft sales to create your WiFiLan account.
UniMax Setup
To setup UniMax
- Open a web browser and type http://w1.wifi-soft.com/wifilan/ and press Enter. Login screen of WiFiLan appears.
- Enter Username, and Password.
- Enter the captcha in the given field.
- Click Login. WiFiLan welcome screen appears.
- Click the Authentication drop down menu link (in the left pane).
- Click on New Hotspot tab under Hotspot link (in the left pane). New Hotspot page appears.

Hotspot Name |
Enter the name of the hotspot location in the Hotspot Name field. |

Enter the address of the hotspot location in the Address field. |
City |
Enter the name of the city of the hotspot location in the City field. |
State |
Select the name of the state from the State drop down list. |
Zip Code |
Enter the zip code of the hotspot location in the Zip Code field. |
Latitude |
Enter the Latitude of the hotspot location in the Latitude field. |
Longitude |
Enter the Longitude of the hotspot location in the Longitude field. |
Type |
Select the type of hotspot location from the Type drop down menu. |
Is Paid |
Click Is Paid check box if the hotspot location is charged. |
Auto MAC Register |
Select Auto MAC Register check box to enable the auto login feature in WiFiLan. |
Next enter the IP address and MAC address settings under Gateway Information section

Device Type |
Select Wifisoft UniMax AP option from the Device Type drop down menu. |
IP Address |
Enter Public IP Address of the gateway in the IP Address field. If your broadband connection is having a dynamic IP, please enter the current IP address. WiFiLAN will work even when the IP address changes. In this case, WiFiLAN uses the MAC address or NAS ID of the router to validate the packet. If you don't know the public IP, connect to your modem and type http://www.whatismyip.org. It will display your current public IP address. |
Secret |
Enter shared secret (password) for your Radius. The same password should be entered when configuring the AP |
NAS ID |
The NAS ID is auto generated by the system. It needs to be entered in the Access Point settings |
MAC address |
Enter the MAC address of your Access point in the MAC Address field. Please see the back side of your access point for getting the correct MAC address. Please separate two characters using colon (:) |

Enter short description for the hotspot in the Description field. |

Click Save to save the changes. |
Adding Access Point:
- Click the Access Points option under Authentication drop down menu link (in the left pane).
- Click the New Access Point tab. The New Access Point page appears.

Access Point Name | Enter the name of the access point in the Access Point Name field. |
MAC address | Enter the MAC address of the AP in the MAC Address field. The MAC address is generally printed on the back of the AP. Please use colon (:) as separator |
Hotspot | Select the hotspot name where the AP is installed from the Hotspot drop down menu. Please make sure that the hotspot is already added |
Description | Enter short description for the AP in the Description field. |
Configuring Access Point Settings
1. Next click on AP Management link (in the left pane). Hotspot Summary page appears.

2. Click on the green button under Action column in the table to access the hotspot settings, or select the hotspot from the drop down menu (from the top left of the page). The Hotspot Dashboard page appears.
3. Click on Manage Hotspot link under AP Management link (in the left pane). Configure Hotspot page appears.

4. Verify and edit (if necessary) the values for the given fields.
5. Click on Submit button to save the changes.
6. Click on the SSID tab (under General tab) and click the Hotspot check box to enable the Hotspot fields.

7. Specify the SSID of the public hotspot. If needed change the SSID for private access. If you don't need private network, disable the SSID1 option
8. Click on Submit button to save the changes.
9. Click the RADIUS tab.

10. Enter the portal page URL in the Splash Page field.
11. Enter the pass through URL in the Passthrough URLs field.
Once the changes take effect, you need to test the new captive portal by connecting to Hotspot SSID.
For advance configuration such as custom captive portal, user authentication and billing etc. please refer to the SPLASH PAGE/ CAPTIVE PORTAL section.
12. Click on the Miscellaneous tab (under RADIUS tab).

13. The default values appears. You can edit the values.
14. Select Enable Meshing check box to enable Meshing.
15. Click Submit to save the changes.
Please wait for few minutes for the changes to take effect to all the access points.
Note: The access point must have checked into the dashboard for the changes to take effect.
View List APs
To view the list of APs
- Click on AP Management link (in the left pane).
- Click Manage APs link under AP Management link (in the left pane). List APs page appears.

3. Click the + button in the first column of the table. The AP details and the graph appears below the page.
