Configuring Nomadix gateway

Purpose of this document

  • This document should be used in conjunction with Nomadix user guide for configuring your Nomadix gateways in WiOS. Please refer to WiOS administrator guide and Nomadix user guide for detail information.
  • It assumes that the user has basic knowledge of networking including configuring subnet mask, RADIUS setting, default gateway and DNS configuration.
  • In order to configure Nomadix you will need a public IP address, Subnet mask, default gateway and DNS information given to you by your Internet Service Provider. Please keep this information handy while setting up your gateway.
  • Configuring WiOS you will need the WAN public IP address, MAC address, RADIUS secret and serial number  of your Nomadix gateway.
  • You need an active WiOS account. Please contact Wifi-soft sales to create your WiOS account.

Fields & Buttons

Description

Enable hotspot

Check this option if you want to enable hotspot service for this network.

Autologin

Enable autologin for this location. Autologin helps end users connect to hotspot automatically without having to login each time. The MAC address of the device is used to identify the device on the network and system automatically validates the MAC address of the device and authenticates it. Please note that you need to enable Mac Authentication feature in the Nomadix settings.

Validity Period

The time period for autologin to remain active. After the given period, the autologin entry is deleted and user will have to relogin.

Auto MAC Capture

Instructs the system to capture the user's MAC address automatically during first login. This option will ensure that user will remain online even if he has disconnected on the network for some time.

NAS ID

Auto generated NAS ID for the gateway. This NAS Id should be added to the gateway so it can authenticate with the system. You need to copy the NAD ID and enter it in the gateway settings.

Secret

Shared secret between gateway and RADIUS server. You need to add the secret to the gateway. The secret is used to encrypt the communication between gateway and RADIUS server. You need to copy the shared secret and enter it in the RADIUS settings of the gateway.

IP Address

Enter the Public IP address of the gateway if you know it. Otherwise use the default one.

Plan

Select the plan based on your requirements. The plan will restrict the number of concurrent devices allowed on the network.

Interim Interval

Enter the interim interval for the accounting packets in seconds. Sometime this setting needs to be done on the gateway.

Once the hotspot is enabled, WiOS will be ready to start accepting AAA requests from the gateway/controller. When the hotspot is added, WiOS will automatically add a default captive portal for the hotspot. You may go an edit the captive portal and customize it as per your requirements.

Now you will need to design a captive portal for your hotspot and generate a URL that can be configured in the gateway/controller's settings.

Please refer to the captive portal design guide for steps to design your custom captive portal.

Nomadix Setup

We have assumed that you have properly connected your Nomadix gateway a broadband connection that has a static public IP address. Additionally, your Nomadix gateway admin interface is accessible either via the LAN interface or via the public WAN interface as shown in the figure below.

Next, you need to click on the Configuration folder listed in the left frame and then on the AAA link.

Make sure that the AAA services link is checked on this tab and the Logout IP is set to 1.1.1.1. Also make sure that the Internal Web Server link is selected as shown below.

Ensure that the Portal Page is enabled. Please enter the URL of the external login page in the Portal Page URL section. To build your external login page, please refer to Captive Portal guide for WiOS. It will provide you step-by-step instructions to build branded, mobile-friendly splash pages.

Make sure that Parameter Passing and Usernames checkboxes are enabled. Uncheck New Subscriber checkbox since we are using external mechanism for registering new subscribers.

Save the changes.

Next you need to add a RADIUS server profile for your Nomadix.

To add a new profile, click on the Realm-based Routing option on the left and then click on the Add button in the RADIUS service profile section.

Fill the new profile form with the RADIUS server settings. Please contact Wifi-soft for the correct IP address of your RADIUS server.

Enter the desired secret key. Please remember this key since you will need it while configuring your gateway in WiOS.

Next check the Enable Accounting check box. For RADIUS servers enter the same information and for port number, please enter 1813.

In retransmission section, make sure that the round-robin is checked and set the Retransmission Delay to 10 seconds and Retransmission Attempts to 2.

The default RADIUS server is as follows:

Server Name

IP Address

Authentication

Port

Accounting Port

Primary RADIUS server

3.20.135.30

1812

1813

If your RADIUS servers are different, please enter the ones that Wifi-soft has assigned for you.

Once the profile is configured, you need to enable it under RADIUS client settings.

Click on the RADIUS client menu option on the left. You will see the screen as shown below

Select Realm-Based RADIUS mode and select the newly entered RADIUS service profile from the drop-down list.

Next enable the Miscellaneous options as shown above. If you have a NAS identification scheme, enter the NAS identifier for the controller here.

If you want guest to go to a default post-login (welcome) page, enable URL Redirection.

Next, we need to configure Pass-through addresses for the login portal. Click on the Pass-through Addresses link in the left frame.

Make sure that the Enable checkbox at the top of the page is checked. In the IP/DNS Name, enter the following IP addresses: 3.20.135.30. You need to add one at a time. Additionally, you also need to add the following pass-through URLs:

  • wios.wifi-soft.com
  • portal.wios.wifi-soft.com
  • wifi-soft.com

Additionally, you can also enter the URL of your website if you want your customers to pass-through without having to authenticate against the RADIUS server.
