Creating Device Profile

Device Profile defines settings that will be configured on the Wifisoft UniMax access points. It defines settings like configuration of LAN and WAN ports, Radio settings and other services likes URL filtering and presence services.

You need to add a device profile for the network if you haven't defined any or use an existing one. The device profile will help you configure the device settings like ports, radio, presence, etc. Each access point will be associated with a device profile and it will use the settings to configure itself. If you wish to reuse an existing profile, then you dont need to create a new one.

To add new device profile, click on Profile section under Network Management. On Device Profile tab, click on the + icon on the right corner. A popup will appear as shown below.

Enter the name of the profile and select Wifisoft AP from the drop-down list. Save the settings.

Next, you need to edit the profile and make necessary changes to the profile. To edit, click on the gear icon on the list device profiles page. The first tab allows you configure the port settings - LAN and WAN port.

LAN port settings

# Parameter Name Description
1 Private LAN The LAN port will create a private LAN subnet separate from the Wireless LAN and will issue IP addresses on the port. The LAN port will be bridged with WAN port so any device connected to LAN port will get direct access to the WAN connection.
2 Hotspot The LAN port will operate in hotspot configuration and will bridge itself with the WLAN port. Any AP or client device connected to LAN port will also become part of the hotspot running on the WLAN port.
3 Daisy Chain The LAN port will be used to daisy chain to another AP and will bridge the other AP to the WAN port.

WAN port settings

WAN port settings are applicable if you are using MobiMax 4G routers that provide WAN connectivity through 4G/LTE backhaul and regular broadband/wired connection.

If you enable MultiWAN option, you will be able to configure the Load balancing and Failover option.

In case of load balancing option, you need to configure how the WAN traffic will be divided into various ports in percentage. For failover option, you can define how the failover will occur between wired and 4G connections.

Radio Settings

You need to configure the Radio settings for the access points using the device profile. The radio settings will be used to configure the channel, power settings on each radio on the access point.

mceclip1.png

First, you need to select the regulatory domain by selecting the country in which you would like to operate the access points. The Regulatory domain will decide the number channels allowed.

Then you need to configure the Radio parameters for various bands -

# Parameter Name Description
1 Bandwidth  Select the size of the channel. 20/40/80 MHz.
2 Channel Select the channel number for the radio. If you want the system to auto select the best channel, select the Auto option
3 Tx Power Select the transmit power in DBm for the radio
4 Background scan Check the box if you want to enable background scan on the radio.
5 Scan time Enter the background scan interval in seconds

Web Filtering

You can also enable web filtering on the access point using the Web Filtering service. By enabling this option, the AP will start filtering specific category of URLs for the users who are online. This feature is mostly used with hotspot functions.

WiOS has implemented DNS based web filtering. It is possible to use third-party DNS based web filtering services like OpenDNS as well. You need to enter the corresponding DNS server IP addresses.

If you use WiOS filtering, then you need to add CF Profile for the given network.

The IP addresses listed above are the default web filtering IP addresses for WiOS.

Presence Service

All UniMax APs have capabilities to scan the neighbourhood for client devices and report their information to a central presence server.

You need to specify the settings for capturing the presence information and uploading it on the server

mceclip3.png

The parameter description is as follows:

# Parameter Name Description
1 RF Cutoff Threshold The signal level of the client devices in DBm above which the AP will capture the presence information
2 Data Upload Interval The interval after which the data is captured and uploaded on the server
3 Data Format The data format for uploading the data
4 Data Server The presence server to which the data is transferred
5 Server Authentication Secret The secret / password used for transmitting the data

Save the settings to complete the device profile configuration.

You can view all the device profiles in the List Device Profile page and edit/delete the profiles.

NOTE: You can't delete the device profile if it is already assigned to any access point.
