Introduction
WiOS is a cloud-based vendor neutral wireless network management and orchestrator platform. It offers many features such as Authentication, Captive Portal, NMS, Billing, Advertisement etc. WiOS has inbuilt cloud controller to manage Indio’s Access Points.
Scope
Scope of this document is to describe various steps required to configure Indio Access Point and run Facebook Express WiFi hotspot service on a particular SSID.
Configuration of Facebook Express WiFi (XWF)
With Facebook’s XWF service, user authentication, hotspot login experience and billing is managed by Facebook’s OSS/BSS platform. WiFi management platform is responsible for managing WiFi Access Points and their settings such as SSID, channel, power, bands, RRM etc.
Following steps are involved in Facebook Express WiFi configuration in WiOS cloud system:
-
Creation of Profiles
-
Device Profile
-
SDWAN Profile
-
WLAN Profile
-
-
Creation of Network
-
Provisioning of Access Points
Device Profile Creation
To create device profile, go to Network Management-> Profiles->Device (Tab) and click on the add device profile ‘+’ icon as shown in the figure below:
Figure 1
After you click on the ‘+’ icon to add new device profile, you will see a modal form as shown in the figure below. Enter appropriate profile name and select device type as “Wifi-soft AP”.
Figure 2
You will see a list of device profiles added in the system under Network Management->Profiles->Device (Tab) as shown in the figure below. Click on the setting icon if you wish to adjust some device level settings such as Physical port settings, Multi-WAN (available on select AP model type only), Radio channel, power or automatic neighbour scan setting etc.
Use the default configuration for configuring XWF on Indio’s Access Points.

SD-WAN Profile Creation
To create SD-WAN profile, go to Network Management->Profiles->SD-WAN (Tab) and click on the ‘+’ icon to add SD-WAN profile as shown in the figure below
Figure 4
Once you click on the ‘+’ icon, you will be taken to new SD-WAN profile creation form as shown below. Here you can create different type of SD-WAN profile based type of technology you want to use to control WAN traffic. For XWF, you must select WAN Type as OVS.
Figure 5
New SD-WAN Profile form
-
Enter appropriate profile name
-
Select WAN Type – OVS
-
Choose Traffic Flow Type as L2 or L3
-
Enter OVS Controller IP
-
Enter OVS Controller Port
-
Enter Datapath Description Identifier
-
Select OVS security type
You can configure OVS in both bridge as well as NAT mode. To configure OVS in NAT mode, you must select Traffic Flow Type as L3 and define your L3 subnet as shown in the figure below. You must not use 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.21.1 subnet as they are privately used by Indio APs. Subnet DHCP scope is mandatory to support SD-WAN operation in NAT (Router) mode.
Figure 6
Likewise, when you want to enable OVS security, you must upload a valid private key, controller certificate and CA certificate as shown in the figure below. OVS security can be enabled for both OVS bridge and OVS NAT mode.

WLAN Profile Creation
To create WLAN profile, go to Network Management->Profiles->WLAN (Tab) and click on the ‘+’ icon to add a WLAN profile as shown in the figure below
Figure 8
When you click on ‘+’ icon, a modal form will appear as shown in the figure below. Enter the appropriate name and description of WLAN profile.

You need to add WiFi networks or SSIDs under a newly created WLAN profile. To add SSID, click on the list icon of a WLAN profile under which you want to add new SSIDs as shown in the figure below
Figure 10
To add SSID, click on the ‘+’ icon as shown in the figure below
Figure 11
After you click on Add SSID icon, you will be taken to New SSID creation form. You can enter appropriate details in the New SSID form as shown in the figure below:
-
Choose appropriate SSID name
-
Keep the security Open (or WPA2/PSK based on your requirement)
-
Select “All” under broadcasting bands
-
Select SD-WAN profile (You must select OVS based SD-WAN profile to enable XWF hotspot service)
All other fields are optional and to be configured based on actual requirements.

Network Creation
To create network, go to Network Management->Networks->Networks (Tab) and click on the add network section as shown in the figure below
Figure 13
After you have clicked on the add network ‘+’ icon, you will be taken to new network creation form as shown in the figure below:
On this form,
- Enter name of venue for which you are creating a network
- Select device type as Wifi-soft AP
- Select venue type
- Use map view to select the address of your venue
